顧客が常用するようなサービスを備えた真のポータル型サイトを目指そうとすれば、IM サービスは Google にとって絶対に必要なものだ。とはMicrosoft社員のコメント。やはりMicrosoftはGoogleを意識してますね。
[2005-08-26]米グーグルのIM＋音声通信ソフト『グーグル・トーク』
Hotwired Japan記事中では2005年8月25日 2:00am PTとあるが、これは米国Hotwiredがリリースした日付である。
実際にこの記事が日本で公開されたのは8月26日。そのため、26日の記事扱いとしている。

テキストチャット（テキストメッセージ）において、テキストの送受信にやや難があるとのこと。
また、
にこやかな顔文字、しゃれたフォント、ファイル転送機能などがない。また、広告も一切見当たらない。グーグル社の事業の標準にして唯一の収入源である広告を放棄している点は奇妙と述べているが、まあ、この点はさほど問題ないだろう。
Googleのことだから、自然なカタチで広告を織り交ぜてくるだろうと予想する。
記事中には
競合サービスに対する明らかな利点が見当たらないのだ。グーグル社は、この新サービスを際立たせるために何らかの手を打つ必要があると、Googletalkについて疑問を投げかけているが、ナンセンスだと思う。
なぜならGoogleのトップページを見ても分かる通り、類い希なるインターフェイス（それはSimple is best）をもっていることからも容易に推測される。
そう、Googleはシンプルであり、我々エンドユーザーの欲求を達成することに努めている。
恐らくGoogleTalkβも、Simple is bestに倣って、シンプルかつ確実なテキスト・音声の転送を実現する方向で開発が進むだろうと予測される。
